The basis for the creation of the Estate was the plantation of the first linear vineyard in Drama in 1979 by Costa Lazaridis. 1992, with the construction of a modern winery and the expansion of the vineyards, marks the beginning of the company’s growth.
The first plantings of 1979 covered just 8,5 hectares, but the chosen grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and the Santorinian Assyrtiko, are tried for the first time in the soils and climate of the region. The results are so impressive that they become the backbone of winemaking for the whole district.

Around 55 hectares, on slope with northern exposure, elevation arount 200 metres and mostly clay or sandy soil.
130 hectares in Kali Vrisi, elevation of 400 metres and primarily rocky soil. There is also 5 hectares in other locations.
The newest part of the vineyard, planted with varieties which are fond of cooler conditions, is in the municipality of Nevrokopi on the slopes of mount Orvilos in elevation of about 900 metres.
Apart from the “standard”, for the region, Sauvignon Blanc and Assyrtiko, Chardonnay, Semillon and Malagouzia are also cultivated.

For many years the needs of the Estate in grapes are covered exclusively by out private vineyards. This allows complete control over the quality of the raw material. Quality also ensured by our conviction to maintain low yields, not exceeding 8 tons of grapes per hectare.
It is our firm belief that excellent grapes need excellent handling to become a great wine.
Even in financially unfavourable times, we invest in facilities and equipment so that our winery remains in the forefront of international developments. From the sorting tables to our presses and electronically controled stainless steel tanks we have one objective only. To seal in the bottle the unique character of each plot and each variety.
Our distillery, is in a separate part of the Estate’s facilities. It is a modern set of alembics which allows us to produce distills of crystal clarity while also maintaining their authenticity. Depending on the spirit we use either traditional or rectificational alembics in pursuit of the optimum result.
The underground cellars of the estate are home to more than 800, 225 litre french oak barrels. In here, under ideal conditions of temperature and humidity, age all our red wines and some selected whites, acquiring that special character gained by the “touch” of the wood. Some of them will remain, after bottling, in special for further ageing, until they reach the peak of their maturity.
In the heart of our biggest vineyard, in Kali Vrisi, we built our vinegar facility, where following the traditional techniques for the production of balsamic vinegar we produce our Botanico family of products.
