DCL Awards 2020

Unique distinction of the Best Greek Winemaker, 1 platinum, 11 gold and 4 silver medals in four of the top wine competitions

The first awards were conferred to the 3 wines of the family Chateau Julia, competing among 11,000 samples during the 26th Grand International Wine Award Competition Mundus Vini. The award-winning wine Chateau Julia Merlot of 2018 and the intricate Chateau Julia Agiorgitiko – Refosco of 2017 were awarded gold medals, while the silver medal was given to Chateau Julia Chardonnay of 2019.

This successful course followed in Berlin, where the largest wine competition Berliner Wein Trophy is held by the OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine), with over 20,250 entries from 41 countries. There, Domaine Costa Lazaridi was honored with the unique distinction of the Best Greek Winemaker. The five golden medals awarded to the red wines of the Estate contributed to this achievement, confirming our philosophy of creating high quality wines in the dynamic and unique terroir of Drama. In detail: Gold medal for the Chateau Julia Merlot of 2018, the organic Oenotria Land Cabernet – Agiorgitiko of 2017, the emblematic Amethystos Red of 2018, the limited edition wine Domaine Costa Lazaridi Syrah of 2017 and, of course, the flagship of the Estate Amethystos Cava of 2017

In Paris, we obtained 2 gold medals for our white wines in the highly competitive competition Vinalies Internationales. The first gold medal was given to Amethystos White of 2019, where the terroir of the mountain vineyard of Katafytos (900 m) turned out to be a deciding factor, upholding the preference of its fanatical consumers. For the second consecutive year in the same competition, Chateau Julia Chardonnay of 2019 received a gold medal, placing it in the ranking of the greatest Greek white wines of the Estate. Red Amethyst of 2018 also received the silver medal.

We also achieved distinctions in the Texsom competition of Texas, America, with a platinum medal for Chateau Julia Merlot of 2017, gold medals for Amethyst White of 2019 and Amethyst Red of 2017, as well as silver medals for Chateau Julia Chardonnay of 2019 and Oenotria Land Cabernet – Agiorgitiko of 2017.

For Domaine Costa Lazaridi, the greatest reward from participating in selected and acclaimed international competitions is not only the distinctions, but also the ability to evaluate our wines next to thousands of other wines from across the globe.
